Douglas Henshall has said that he will not be returning to Primeval.
I think it’s better playing bad guys because you don’t have to ‘do the right thing.’ In Primeval there are times when I think, ‘Why do I have to be doing the right thing again?’ That’s harder to make interesting.” he told Benji Wilson of the Daily Telegraph.
“I’ve been with Primeval for two and half years now and that’s longer than anything I’ve done previously,” he says. “I’d never repeated a character before so it was difficult. An 11-year-old kid wrote in saying my face was always the same when a monster came – and he was dead right.
I don’t know how many other ways you can do that ‘Oh a monster’s coming to eat me’ face. So the kid was right, and that actually made me think. Now, somewhere there’s a Primeval fan out there going, ‘Good, he took note.’”
Earlier this week he told David Bentley of Coventry Telegraph’s Geek files that he was not surprised that Primeval was returning for another two series
"I thought that the writing was good enough and the premise was good enough, then if people liked it, it could go pretty much as long as it liked. As long as people had faith in it who were making it, then I thought it would be fine," said the 43-year-old.
"It taps into an eternal thing in young people, dinosaurs, monsters and myths and legends. I went to the Natural History Museum the other week with my niece, she's in her twenties, she's not a kid, but we had to go down there because I thought she should see it.
"Me and my partner, the three of us were walking through the dinosaur exhibit and kids, boys and girls were queuing and queuing to see this big Tyrannosaurus Rex and you think, 'What is it about dinosaurs?"
